They are designed with originality, durability, and efficiency in mind. Nothing is comparable. From outdoor recreation to indoor education, our products are practical! They can be both useful and entertaining! Informative and educational! Conversation pieces built to last a lifetime! Designed, manufactured, and assembled by American craftsman!

Most people aren’t aware of how a manufactured item comes into form. To begin with, most shops charge anywhere from $80/hour to $400/hour depending on services provided. It all starts with a concept, which then evolves into a layout called a general arrangement. Proper materials, secondary operations, and any commercial items also have to be considered. Once the final design is laid out, detail or working drawings can be created. The drawings are then sent out for quotes to various service providers. After labor and material has been calculated and pricing is accepted, material can be ordered and primary operations can begin. While operations are in process, any commercial items will be ordered. Primary operations are dependent on workpiece features and can involve sawing, laser/water jet cutting, turning, milling, drilling, broaching, EDM, forming and welding. Secondary operations often include machining welds, deburring, heat treatment, bead blasting, honing, grinding, plating, polishing, and passivation. Finished parts then have to be inspected for material defects, surface finish, and feature tolerance. Once past inspection, parts are assembled with other parts and any required commercials - fasteners, pins, keys, bearings, o’rings, anti-seize, thread locker, grease, etc. When final assembly is complete, items have to be wrapped, padded and packaged correctly to prevent damage during shipping. This is an over simplification, but it gets the point across.

Lead time is another story. As manufacturing picks up in a strong economy, a single shop may be juggling hundreds of responsibilities simultaneously! Depending on work load, a typical job shop will quote a 14-hour part at 6 to 8-weeks, if you’re lucky. Just like anything though, research is needed. Lazy shops prioritize themselves, while respectable shops prioritize the customer.

To sum it up, it’s nearly impossible to have anything custom manufactured in one day, let alone in a few hours… and at $100 to $200 an hour, it adds up fast. The design risk and cost put custom made items well out of reach of most. For example, if we were to make only one Shore-easy Tackle Block System with all accessories, it would cost us well over $1500.00! We buy in small quantities and use shops that are a good fit, fully tooled, and provide good quality at a competitive price. Because of this, we are able to offer unique, high-quality products at a fair price. A large part of our reward is customer satisfaction and the self-satisfaction of combining productivity with creativity.

Members of our team also have decades of experience in outdoor recreation, survival, and martial skills. We know what works and what doesn’t. Much on the open market today will fit into one of the following categories: falsely advertised, poorly designed, imported junk, ornate yet non-functional, weakly constructed, and the list goes on. In contrast, Northaxe only sells quality items that we, ourselves would buy.

Our goal is multifaceted. We hope to bring recognition to American designers, fabricators, machine shops, welders, printing shops and American manufacturing in general. We attempt to distance ourselves from cheap, foreign, mass-produced rubbish by creating distinctive, practical, entertaining, and informative merchandise. We strive to provide the most competitive pricing possible for custom manufactured items, services not generally available to the public.

In addition to being well constructed, our Contrivances are designed to appeal to one’s sense of originality. Whether you’re a solitary individual or in a group, the efficiency in which they function will be admired. When given as a gift, your statement will set you apart and be cherished for years to come!

Our Graphics are designed to be both aesthetic and thought-provoking reference material you can trust… no spin, no opinionated interpretation, just true facts… invaluable learning tools in this world of disinformation. They can be a sensible gift idea for any young person or a practical addition to any classroom, home, or office!
